Background
Female patient, 46 years old, former smoker, systemically healthy. The patient was diagnosed with generalised periodontitis and after the inital non-surgical treatment, inflammation of the tissues persisted around the first lower left molar. Clincal and radiographical examination revealed a deep pocket with a pocket depth of 8mm and bleeding on probing.
Procedure
We have performed a surgical debridement of the affected area and regenerated the tissues using Emdogain©. The gel was inserted into the periodontal defect. Healing was uneventful and after 12 months the final x-ray and clinical examination demonstrates complete resolution of the defect and regeneration of the lost tissues. Please not the bone fill on the x-ray and the lack of bleeding around the tooth in question. Final probing depth was 3mm.
